Male

Male is the capital of the Maldives atolls and the best way to enter this paradisical tropical destination. It is like any other busy capital city- the streets throng with scooters and cars and are lined with Indian bazaars selling all kinds of exotic spices and coconuts. There are not many important or noteworthy attractions to look out for in Male; visitors generally take a seaplane directly to the resort they have booked. However, while you are in the city, you should make time and check out some of the attractions such as the gold-tipped Islamic center or the Friday Mosque dating back to the 17th century.

Hulhumale Island

Hulhumale Island is close to the capital city and is quite an exciting draw away from the busy life that Male portrays. The Velna International Airport is also situated on Hulhumale Island making it another important gateway into this island nation. It is a charming island with terrific promenade walkways built over the Indian Ocean. It also has some fine beaches, though they are artificially built. Among other attractions, you have to check out the glass-topped mosque while you are here.

Maafushi

Maafushi was hit by the terrible 2004 tsunami on the Indian Ocean and has been trying to recover from the severe damages ever since. However, this small fishing village still has plenty of charm to offer. In fact, Maafushi offers some of the most terrific options for homestays in recent years. This has made this place very popular among backpackers and budget travelers who can easily find cozy accommodations in this place. The beaches lined with palm trees are stunning to look at. You can sit back and relax in one of the many coffee shops as you gaze into the gentle waves of the Indian Ocean washing the shore.

Utheemu

Utheemu is situated in the northern extremities of the Haa Alif Atoll, which is the northernmost island in the Maldives. Utheemu is a beautiful destination most famous as the home of Sultan Mohamed Thakurufaanu. He was the revered leader of the Maldivian rebels who were successful in driving away the Portuguese from the island in the 16th century. You get to experience the usual sparkling white sandy beaches washed by electrifying blue waters in this place. However, there are a couple of historic attractions too such as Utheemu Ganduvaru, the childhood home of the revered Maldivian leader.

Feydhoo

Feydhoo is one of the most interesting places in the Maldives island chain to visit. Most of the inhabitants of this island shifted here during the 19th century. It was a time of great turmoil as the second world war was going on. During this time, the British converted the nearby island of Gan into an airbase and airlifted all its inhabitants to settle in Feydhoo, both situated in the Seenu Atoll. It is a welcoming and laidback place where you can stroll around on the streets and try the delicious local seafood curries.
Maradhoo

Maradhoo is nearby Feydhoo and connected to this island via a causeway. The causeway runs over the coral-lined shoreline of the Seenu Atoll giving you some stunning details to remember. It is a long and thin piece of land that juts out into the Indian Ocean and is lined with swaying palm-fringed beaches. The locals are very welcoming and you just have to try the many spicy seafood curries which are so easily available on this island. Link Road is one of the major attractions on this island and you have to take a stroll through it. The roadway is lined with many coffee and sandwich shops for you to relax in after a long walk.
Banana Reef

One of the main attractions in the Maldives is diving- most visitors to the Maldives are looking for a grand diving experience. And Banana Reef is one of the best places in the world to go SCUBA diving and enjoy the stunning underwater life up close and personal! The colorful underwater world covered in fruit-shaped corals and seaweed look as magnificent as your imagination permits you to believe. Among other marine creatures, you may also get to see reef sharks and barracudas as you are enjoying a breathtaking diving experience.
Alimatha Island

Alimatha Island is located on the eastern extremities of the Maldives situated in the Felidhe Atoll. This place boasts of some of the most exquisite cabanas, pristine sandy beaches which remain untouched by the general population, and some of the best SCUBA diving spots in the nation. The shores are surrounded by some of the most splendid coral formations and sea walls. You will get to have some mind-blowing encounters with aquatic life and are sure to see eels, jackfish, and morays in the surrounding waters. You can also opt for one of the night diving packages while you are enjoying some quiet time here.

Fuvahmulah

If you are looking forward to experiencing something unique in your Maldives tour, you should head to Fuvahumulah. this place will give you an experience like no other place in the Maldives. Firstly, you should know that Fuvahumulah is an atoll in itself, there are no other neighboring landmasses nearby. You will also find many inland lakes as you explore Fuvahumulah which is a unique sight in flatlands. Banging Beach is one of the most popular beaches in this area and you have to visit the place to enjoy crashing salt sprays. This is unlike the other places in the Maldives where you generally get gentle waves and relaxing lapping lagoons.

Kuredu

Around the central-northern region of the Maldivian archipelago, you will find the self-proclaimed jewel of the Lhaviyani Atoll, Kuredu. This is a terrific place to find yourself. you will be welcomed by a small boomerang-shaped isle. A single resort covers the entire island and offers all kinds of amenities that you could ask for. You can stay in a bamboo shack or one of those exquisite bungalows with verandas overlooking the waves. This is a great place for adventure seekers since the SCUBA diving and snorkeling scene is on point here. It is going to be one of the most challenging experiences that you have.
