Peterson Automotive Museum
As we said- LA has something for everyone out there and if you love automobiles then the Peterson Automotive Museum is your haven! The museum spans over four floors and has an exquisite collection of more than 300 cars and motorcycles from 1886 up to the present day. Some of the displays are permanently put up while others are temporary and are changed from time to time. You may also opt for an additional guided Vault tour which takes you through really rare and unusual cars.
The beachfront city of Santa Monica with the golden sandy beach and the iconic Santa Monica Pier is just a short drive away from LA. It is a unique, chic, and exotic place where you will find a peculiar mix of adventurers, yoga practitioners, skateboarders, and businessmen. The downtown district of Santa Monica is one of the most happening places to be in. You will find all kinds of shops from vintage and exotic ones to high-end boutiques. The Third Street Promenade is one of the most interesting attractions in this part. Getting to Santa Monica is also a fairly easy experience for anyone- just hop on the Expo Metro line which connects downtown LA to Santa Monica.
Natural History Museum
The Natural History Museum of Los Angeles County is best known for the exquisite collection of dinosaur bones that it has on show. The Dinosaur Hall covers 14,000 ft2 and boasts an awesome display including t-rex fossils, triceratops, stegosaurs, etc. The t-rex growth series features three full skeletons of t-rex from baby to adult!
Amongst the other collections, the natural history of California showcased in "Becoming Los Angeles" is an attractive experience. It details 500 years of the history of California. Younger visitors will find the "Discovery Center and Insect Zoo" to be fun since they will get a hands-on experience here!
California Science Center
The California Space Center is a very impressive place to visit and is the home to the Space Shuttle Endeavour. The space shuttle is housed in the Samuel Oschin Pavilion along with other artifacts that have been brought from space missions. There are other interesting exhibits too such as the Ecosystems exhibit which features a 188,000-gallon tank of kelp, live plants, fish, animals, etc. other than these permanent exhibits you could also browse through a plethora of ever-changing selection of items to see and learn from.
The Original Farmers Market
The Los Angeles Farmers Market was initiated in 1934 during the Great Depression when 18 farmers got together on a piece of land near Wilshire Boulevard and set up stalls to sell their wares. Their idea became quite successful and led to the growth of the ever-expanding farmers' market. Once only a fruit and vegetable market, today you get all kinds of wares such as toys, kitchenware, jewelry, and candles. There are even restaurants within the market for you to try all kinds of delicacies.
La Brea Tar Pits
Formed 40,000 years ago, the La Brea Tar Pits offer you a unique opportunity to witness live excavations of fossils and learn a great deal about them. The fossils are very well-preserved in tar that seeped through the soil all those years ago and offer an exquisite look into a very different age! There is also a museum here that houses reconstructed fossils of all kinds of prehistoric lives that were found here. You could also get an idea of how the excavated fossils are converted into permanent displays. Some of the interesting fossils to look out for include mammoths, saber-tooth cats, and dire wolves dating somewhere between 40,000 to 100,000 years ago.
