Mozambique, a country located in Southern Africa is bordered by the Indian Ocean (east), Tanzania (north), Malawi and Zambia (northwest), Zimbabwe (west), and Eswatini (Swaziland) and South Africa (southwest). The country is separated by the Mozambique Channel from the Comoros, Mayotte and Madagascar from the east side. Mozambique capital : The capital and largest city of Mozambique is Maputo (formerly referred to as "Lourenço Marques" from 1876 to 1976). Mozambique history : Between the 1st and 5th centuries AD, Bantu-speaking peoples migrated to present-day Mozambique from farther north and west. Northern Mozambique comes in the monsoon trade winds zone of the Indian Ocean . Between the 7th and 11th centuries, a series of Swahili port towns developed here, which contributed to the event of a definite Swahili culture and language. within the late medieval period, these towns were frequented by traders from Somalia, Ethiopia, Egypt, Arabia, Persia, and India. Portuguese arrived here by the voyage of Vasco da Gama in 1498. Slowly, Portuguese started colonisation and settlement in 1505. In 1975, Mozambique got independence after over four centuries of Portuguese rule. Shortly after independence, it became People’s Republic of Mozambique. After only two years of independence, the country descended into an intense and protracted war lasting from 1977 to 1992. In 1994, Mozambique held its first multiparty elections, and has since remained a comparatively stable presidential republic, although it still faces a low-intensity insurgency. Mozambique economy : Mozambique has rich and big natural resources. The country's economy is predicated largely on agriculture, but industry is growing, mainly food and beverages, chemical manufacturing and aluminium and petroleum production. South Africa is Mozambique's main trading partner and source of foreign direct investment, while Belgium, Brazil, Portugal and Spain also are among the country's most vital economic partners. Mozambique's annual average GDP growth has been estimated as highest in the world since 2001. However, the country remains one among the poorest and most underdeveloped countries within the world, ranking low in GDP per capita, human development, measures of inequality and average anticipation. Mozambique tourism : The tourism sector is also expanding. Mozambique's has natural environment, a wildlife, and have historic heritage. The beach, cultural, and eco-tourism of Mozambique very much attracts people. Mozambique has great potential for growth in tourism sector contributing to the GDP of the country. The clean water of north beaches are suitable for tourism, specially for people who are very far away from urban centers, like the people who are in the province of Cabo Delgado, especially the Quirimbas Islands, and in the province of Inhambane, especially the Archipelago of Bazaruto. The Inhambane Province attracts international divers due to the marine biodiversity and therefore the presence of whale sharks and manta rays The country has many national parks, including Gorongosa park , with its infrastructures rehabilitated and repopulated in certain species of animals that were already disappearing. Mozambique language : The official language of Mozambique is Portuguese. Portuguese is spoken mostly as a second language by about 50% of the population. Common native languages include Makhuwa, Sena, and Swahili. Mozambique people : The country's population of around 29 million consists of overwhelmingly Bantu people. Mozambique religion : The most important religion in Mozambique is Christianity, with significant minorities following Islam and African traditional religions.
